„A siker nekem az, hogy azt az életet élhetem, amiről mindig is álmodoztam” – Exkluzív BLANKA interjú

How are you today?

I’m good. Very nice to see you. And thank you for having me.

Let’s start at the very beginning. When and how did you get into singing and making music? Was it always your dream to become a singer?

So I started from songwriting. I wrote my first song when I was 13 years old. I was living in Poland in kind of like a small city near the German border, it is called Szczecin. And I used to live here till the age of 14-15. Then I moved to the United States. And this is where I started songwriting and just writing music and trying to figure it out. How should I do it and how to make it.

And was it always your dream to become a singer?

You know what? Yeah. Yeah, well, I was around music my whole life, and I didn’t know if I would be a singer or a songwriter or a performer. I had no idea about this, but I loved singing and performing for my family my whole life. I would make them sit and I was like, „okay, now I’m performing, so please watch”.

Who were your main inspirations when you were growing up and who are they now?

My mom used to play me a lot of Madonna’s music, so that was my number one inspiration for sure. I know all her old songs, everything. So for sure, Madonna. I love George Michael, absolutely adore him. Michael Jackson, love Whitney Houston. This is like top of the top. And I also love like Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears and, you know, all that 2000s vibes. Right now it’s same people. But I would add, for example The Weekend to it or Doja Cat, I really adore them.

Let’s talk about your latest single, “Rodeo”. First of all, congratulations on it, it’s such a great song. Can you tell us a bit about the background of the song like what inspired it and what is the message that you’re trying to get across with it?

Rodeo is a song about being fed up with the lies, with the bullshit, pretty much that the other person is giving you. It’s about when you give someone many chances and they let you down every single time and they don’t appreciate the chances you give them. You don’t even have to quit anymore. The love is just running out. By the time you decide to end the relationship, you’re not even sad about it because the love just absolutely run out of you and you’re just out of it. I write from my own experiences. It’s pretty much like a happy ending, a love story, but also with a kind of a happy ending for yourself, because you’re now free of this, you know, the bad emotions that this person was giving to you. It is a freedom anthem to me. It’s about being free and just, not having to deal with the negative stuff from the other person.

Which song of yours would you show to a person that doesn’t you yet? Which one do you think represents you the most as an artist?

Rodeo!

Now we have to talk about Eurovision. It’s such a famous contest with a very long history. How did you prepare for this opportunity and experience emotionally?

Oh, my goodness. I did not prepare. I was not prepared for this. It’s hard there. At first I had to deal with a lot of hate and a lot of craziness. Basically, I would say in my country the most and then I dealt with a lot of love outside of my country. Inside my country. It was like a rollercoaster of emotions and the different stages of it. I was definitely not prepared for it, but it was a great journey and I’m absolutely happy I did it.

Do you have a favourite memory from your whole Eurovision journey?

Oh, God, there are so many. But I feel like my favorite one is walking on the stage in Liverpool for the very first time. Because for months you imagine that moment and then it finally happened. So that was for sure my favorite.

Eurovision and basically music itself is all about unity, making a positive impact and bringing people together from all around the world. If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

About the world? It’s like a miss universe type of question. Let me think. Well, you know what? I would change a lot for sure. I feel like I can talk about the hate online. I don’t think it’s one thing that makes people do this, it’s many other stuff. But if I could change one thing, it would be not like this is – I feel like freedom online is amazing. But in this case, it’s not because people feel like they’re free to hate on someone. It’s not even about me. It’s every person. I mean, each second in all over the world, there are people experiencing hate online. And I feel like we don’t talk enough about it. It’s kind of it kind of became normal for us, like, „oh yeah, you get getting hate online”. No, it’s not normal. I feel like opinions are great, but hate is something absolutely different. It’s not an opinion. It’s when you’re trying to put someone down. So I feel like if I could change something it in the world. I would definitely stop this.

Your songs are truly uplifting, and I feel like they have the power to make people feel good. I’m curious, what helps you remain positive and optimistic when life gets a little too hard or you just have a bad day?

Well, definitely music gets me through the day, so I listen to a lot of music, all the time. It also inspires me to make music like that. The music that will make me stronger and feel empowered and all that. Definitely music and talking to my friends. They always cheer me up. And, you know, it’s like a really basic thing, but I feel like we all should have that. Also my mom, she’s been such a big support for me and she’s my best friend. Whenever I feel down, I definitely talk to her and I try to remind myself as well that we only get to live once and we have to make the most out of it. And life is really beautiful and all that matters. It’s my health, my family’s health and that my family’s all right. Everything else is: it’s all in your hands.

If you had to choose a theme song for your life, what would it be?

God, what a great question that is. I have no idea, though. Boy, let me think. Maybe Titanium by Sia and David Guetta.

You obviously have many talents as a singer, as a dancer, as a DJ. But do you have any hidden talents that we don’t know about yet?

Oh, my goodness. Hidden talents. I don’t know. I don’t know if I have any hidden talents. I don’t think so. I mean, I used to do, like, magic tricks and weird things with my fingers and stuff.

You’re still at the beginning of your career and you’ve already accomplished so much. What does success mean to you personally? How would you define it for yourself?

Oh, my goodness. I feel like it means I get to live the life I always dreamt of. This is amazing. I woke up every day and I feel super blessed. I feel like the hard work that I’ve been putting in for many years that people don’t really see because they only see, „oh, now, you know, her song is famous” or „she went to the Eurovision”. But it’s a lot of hard work for many, many years. And I finally feel like this hard work is just paying off and it’s worth it. It’s worth working hard for your dreams and making your dreams come true. And the message I would like to give out to people is do not give up on your dreams. Ever, ever, ever!

What’s next for you? Can we expect an album from you anytime soon, maybe a tour, as well?

Yes. The plan would be for next year to do more shows around the Europe, for sure, to do like a little tour and then definitely an album hopefully next year as well. I’m going to Finland to do some promo and I’m doing a show tomorrow there. So just basically traveling around and promoting my music and just releasing more. I have a lot of music to be released, so I can’t really wait to just do it.

Is there a message that you would like to share with your Hungarian fans?

Of course, I think it would be the one that I just said is that, first of all, thank you so much for all the love and support. And I really hope that you enjoy my music and it makes you happy, and makes you just appreciate life a little more. When you wake up in the morning play the song that makes you, just gets you in the good mood. So this is one thing I wanted to say. And the other thing is that the message would be: don’t give up on your dreams and pursue what you believe in. And yeah, just don’t give up.
