„Számomra a siker azt jelenti, hogy soha nem állok meg” – exkluzív interjú Mimi Webbel a Szigetről

Mimi Webb dropped her very first single only a little more than 3 years ago, but she has already achieved so much success that some others can only dream about. The 23-year-old British singer released her debut album „Amelia” this March, and two songs from the record went straight to the top 15 of the Official Charts chart, but even on her first EP, „Seven Shades of Heartbreak”, she had a top 10 hit.

She’s currently promoting her album with a tour around the world, as a part of which she performed in Hungary on the Main Stage of Sziget Festival on August 12.

You know the story… I came from a small town in the UK, and now I’m here with you

– she told the crowd.

As it was to be expected, Mimi’s first Hungarian show was simply amazing, and we had the opportunity to sit down and chat with her a bit before she stepped on stage. She told us about her debut album, touring, red flags in a relationship, success, she shared a message with her Hungarian fans, and we tried to teach her a little Hungarian, as well – exclusive interview with Mimi Webb from Sziget Festival.

We’re so happy that you’re here in Budapest! Did you get the chance to look around and explore the city a bit?

Thank you! I haven’t, unfortunately, but I hope we’ll get to it at some point.

I hope so! I recommend it. Now, you released your debut album „Amelia” earlier this year. What is the most important thing that you learned during the creation process of this record?

I think it was just enjoying the process and kind of leaving the pressure at the door. I think it was definitely just enjoying it, soaking it all up, you know.

It’s such an amazing achievement to be able to drop an album so I think the best thing was just to remember that.

I love your song „Red Flags”. Can you tell me, what is the biggest red flag for you in a relationship?

Red flag… I think just, when they’re not supportive, that’s the biggest. When they’re just like, „nope”. When they’re being able to give, I think that’s a positive. So when they’re not able to give, red flag!

And which song of yours would you show to a person that doesn’t know you yet?

Doesn’t know me yet… Probably, out of the songs I’ve got, maybe „House On Fire”.

That’s my favourite, actually! Love it.

Oh, okay!

Since we’re at a festival right now, let’s talk about concerts and touring a bit. Do you have any pre-show rituals that you always do before every concert of yours?

Yeah, warming up, that’s the big one.

Alright, and what’s one thing that you just can’t leave at home when you’re travelling on tour?

Can’t leave at home… Probably my passport.

That’s a given.

Yeah!

You’ve started your career fairly recently, and you’ve already accomplished so much. But what I’m curious about is, what does success mean to you personally? How would you define it for yourself?

For me, it’s being in a stage where it’s continuous and it’s staying on the machine and it’s the machine is going.

Also, once I start selling out arenas and getting to that stage, I’ll be like, „okay, right, we’re getting there”.

Alright. And finally, is there a message that you would like to share with your Hungarian fans?

Just to say how grateful I am, and excited for people to start listening to my music and hear my sound. Hopefully, everyone enjoys it. Umm, yeah, sending all my love.

Alright, so that’s all we planned for you today, but, before we go, we would like to teach you something, so you can take away something from this interview, as well.

Okay, right.

So, do you know any Hungarian words?

No.

Is it okay for you if we teach you how to say „I love you” in Hungarian?

Yeah, let’s do it!

So it goes like this: „szeretlek”. A little bit slower: „sze-ret-lek”.

Szel-et-ret.

Almost, it’s „sze-ret-lek”.

Sze-lek-ret? I can’t do it, I’m awful, I’m awful.

It’s almost. But it’s okay, it’s okay! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us, we really loved it, and can’t wait to see you on stage.

Thank you, thank you so much!
