„Teljesen rendben van, ha önmagam akarok lenni” – exkluzív interjú Yaegerrel Bécsből, Zara Larsson koncertje előtt

It’s so nice to see you. How are you today?

I am really good. Really good, this is the last day of tour.

Let’s start at the very beginning. When and how did you get into writing songs and making music?

I got into it by just writing lyrics. Like poems. Then I just started, like humming to the lyrics. Then from there, I realized I was like, I’m writing songs, and I’ve been dreaming about it my whole life. I wanted to do it, so I got… It was like through a friend, a producer, through a friend. We started getting in the studio. He was like, „Wanna come to the studio with me?” And I said „to write songs?!” Then we started dropping music on SoundCloud and things sort of happened from there.

Who were biggest inspirations when you were growing up. Who are they now?

Britney Spears. Christina Aguilera. Yeah, I mean, MTV. Like everyone was on MTV, basically. I mean, Shakira.

Love Shakira she’s an icon.

Iconic. I mean, they’re icons, all of them. So, um, yeah, I guess that was my first [obsession], you know, standing in the mirror, dancing, listening to my CDs and my stereo. They were my first inspirations. I mean, Robyn has always been, like, an inspiration. She’s very clean, scary and clean. Yeah, I mean, Tove Lo.

Well, I guess the ones that I could, you know…

Kind of relate to?

Yeah, exactly. Um, but, I mean, Kehlani has always been like my [favourite]. She’s so chill, I feel like she just writes music and then she drops it and she does it in a fun way. And I just like her personality.

You released your debut EP Jaguar last October. Can you tell me about the background of the record, like what were your main inspirations? And what is the message that you’re trying to get across with it?

I was… it’s really about that mental time when you break up with someone and when there’s a time in between when you break up with someone and then when you’re actually okay again. And that time is so memorable because it really like, again, like, shape you in so many ways because you’re like so self-destructive.

You don’t give a fuck about anything or anyone and you’re just like, you don’t need anyone because, you don’t. You’re not looking for love in that point because you’re looking so hard to love yourself again. So you don’t want it from anyone else. You try to find it in yourself. And that time, and that’s what the EP really is about. It’s just like in that phase when you’re just running and running and running until you bump into another love again. That’s that’s what it is about.

What is the most important thing that you learned during the creation process of the record?

Let’s keep exploring. I think just believing in myself and that it’s okay to just do me. I think that’s why I’ve been having so much fun this year. And when I was writing in the studio I’ve just kept doing myself and just pushing myself and writing music in a different way.

Which song was the hardest to create on it?

Ciao, no doubt. Oh, I did not want to finish that song, I was crying in the studio when I was recording the vocals. When we wrote it, I recorded everything that day and you can almost hear in the recording that I’m crying because it’s about my ex and my my best friend at the time – they started sleeping behind my back. That was not a fun time for me. I kind of lost two people at once. You know, it was my girl. I thought I’d have her for life, you know? So that was really, really hard. It was really like stab in the back of a moment in my life. And that’s why it’s called Ciao, because I’m like „Bye, babes, but also by bitches„, you know.

Next thing is probably a hard one. We song of yours would you show to a person that doesn’t know you yet?

A probably show Jaguar because it has so many different sides of me.

If you had to pick a theme song for your life, but would it be?
You’re on tour right now with Zara Larsson. It’s extra special because as we mentioned earlier, this is your first ever, and if I’m not mistaken this is your last stop. How has this experience been for you?

Amazing. So much fun. I mean, I’ve dreamt about going on tour in my whole life, and this is the first one, and it’s around Europe as well and with Zara, a Swedish artist and ah, a pop icon and her team is amazing. She’s so lovely as well and everyone’s been so welcoming and there are a lot of girls in this team which I love, it’s been such a cool experience and it feels weird that it’s the last stop. I just feel like it’s so nice to be able to see all of this and for me to be like, „well, I’ll have my own tour„. One day if everyone wants to buy tickets at some point.

Do you have any pre-show rituals that you always do before every concert of yours?

I mean, we started when this work and I like your ritual, obviously warm up and all of that. You know it’s a given but right before we go on stage… I invented this like two and a half weeks ago. We stand together like this and this [in the video Yaeger showed the moves they do before her concerts with her team].

What’s one thing that you just can’t feel at home when you’re traveling for a concert?

Oh, my sleeping mask. Mostly thing mask. Yeah, I have one that is really good. It’s not like tight on your eyes. It has like two round things, so it just lies like this. So I can actually have naps when I’ve done my makeup. Oh, because it’s not like smudging anything. So I would just be like by literally in here, I would be like, put my mask on, like on the kitchen.

So you are nominated at the Swedish Grammy this year in two categories. So first of all, congratulations. What was your first reaction when you heard the news?

Oh, I was at the hotel in what city? Let’s say you were somewhere. And I this was just a couple of days, three days ago. And I had just gotten text on my phone and I woke up, I stood up. I checked my phone, I looked at the guys, the band, and I was like, Oh, and just making sounds. Then I dropped down on the floor. I think we have a video of that. It’s crazy. That’s what I did. Yeah, I dropped down. On the floor. Oh, my muscles just stop working like that.

Finally, what’s next for you? What can expect to see from you in the near future?

I’m dropping my next single very soon, and I’m releasing music videos as well. I’m doing my first summer of festivals around Scandinavia!
