„Teljesen rendben van, ha megosztod másokkal a sebezhető pontjaidat” – Exkluzív interjú Kovacs-szel

It’s so nice to see you, how are you today?

I am alright I’m in the airplane and about to go Africa for 7 weeks.. I’m going there to have some therapy and rest just before the summer starts.

You released your latest album, Child of Sin in January. First of all, congratulations on it! Could you explain the meaning behind the title?

As I grew up, I always felt something was wrong with me and growing up in foster homes also didn’t really help. During Covid, I went to therapy end I had to deal with little Sharon and this little Sharon felt like a child of sin and still feels like it sometimes but she’s still around and coming out once in a while…

Could you tell us a bit about the concept of the album, like what were your main inspirations when you were making it and what is the message that you’re trying to get across with it?

The inspiration is my own life & the things that happen around me. The therapy I just talked about, me going to Portugal and living home again with my parents, which I didn’t do in my teenage years and puberty also about. Maybe how I felt in some situations like high tide and about me going independent and releasing on my own label, yeah so I guess about the last five years of my life.

Similarly to your previous work, this record feels really raw and honest, as well. Which song was the hardest to create on it, either emotionally, or musically?

Child of Sin because it’s such a heavy subject and I wasn’t ready to talk about it yet.

One of my favorite songs on the album is Bang Bang, which interpolates Bang Bang originally sung by Cher. How did the idea for this particular song come about?

I love these murder investigations programs on TV and watch them every night before I go to sleep.

This is probably going to be a hard one: do you have a favorite song on the album?

I find Fragile very beautiful but also Child of Sin

What is the most important thing you learned during the creation process of the record?

That it’s ok to share your vulnerabilities asking as you can already deal with them and look them in the eyes.

You worked with Rammstein’s Till Lindemann on the title track, Child of Sin, and previously you’ve worked with Gnash and Parov Stelar, as well. Do you have a dream collaborator that you want to work with the most?

Till was my biggest dream.. the other Collaborations where arranged by my label and to be honest It wasn’t my first choice.. The collab with till I arranged it myself with the help of one of his good friends.

You’re coming to Hungary this summer, so let’s talk about touring and concerts a bit. Do you have any preshow rituals that you always do before every concert of yours?

Make up haha this makes me calm and prepares me for the show.. and all the girls and I are laughing and joking and be crazy.

What’s one thing that you just can’t leave at home when you’re on tour?

When I’m going with the bus I always bring my dog Bibi with me.

You’re coming to a festival in Hungary, and I think festivals are great because the audience can get to know artists that maybe they didn’t know before. Which song of yours would you show to a person that doesn’t know you yet?

My love obv.

Obviously, you are an extremely talented musician, but do you have any hidden talents that we don’t know about?

I love to paint… I’ve painted my last album and I like to make clothes and edit videos.

You released your debut EP in 2014, so you’ve been in the industry for almost a decade now. What was the biggest challenge you had to face during this time?

Getting independent.

If you had a time machine and you could go back in time to when you were starting out and give your younger self just one piece of advice, what would it be?

I would go to the beginning of my career and tell myself to not be insecure and to not blindly sign every contract.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Making art and music.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with your Hungarian audience?

I am very much looking forward performing my new songs This summer at Venegy festival and hope to meet you there.

You have Hungarian connections. Do you know any Hungarian words?

Yes my stepfather, he was Hungarian and my sister is half Hungarian, and we went there on holidays when I was 3-4 years old.
